The new inductees recited a pledge to uphold the highest standards of Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character and Citizenship, the ideals on which the NJHS is built.

NJHS President Julia Wasilco presented the history of the honor society and explained the selection process. Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is one of the highest honors awarded to a middle school student. The standards for selection include exemplary character, scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and service. To be eligible for membership, a seventh or eighth grader must have a cumulative average of 90% or higher in six consecutive marking periods. Applicants for membership in the NJHS are then evaluated by all of their teachers in the area of character and leadership within the classroom. The final step is a review by the Faculty Council. Mrs. Alana Burns serves as the advisor to the National Junior Honor Society.
